About ACTIONS

Welcome to ACTIONS at UW

The Abortion Care Training Incubator for Outstanding Nurse Scholars (ACTIONS), originally launched at University of California San Francisco in 2018, and has expanded to include University of Washington. Our fellowship supports scholars who are enthusiastic and passionate about transformational change in reproductive health and justice. As the program grows, we also have launched several research and policy advocacy projects focused on sexual and reproductive health workforce issues. Join us as we train the next generation of thought leaders and change agents in nursing leadership and faculty positions around the country.

Our goal

UW ACTIONS will increase the number of Nurses, Nurse-Practitioners (NPs) and Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) and potentially Physician Assistants proficient in comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care services, including abortion care, within the context of reproductive justice and public health; improve the quality and availability of curricular content to ensure essential SRH competencies, and support re-envisioning of the nursing workforce to best support persons seeking equitable reproductive health care services. With a focus on reshaping nursing education and workforce practices, UW ACTIONS is not just a program – it is a transformative force, reshaping the landscape of reproductive health care services and advocating for the rights and well-being of all individuals. Together, we can build a future where everyone has access to the care they need and deserve.

How ACTIONS activates and supports nursing scholars

ACTIONS provides critical funding for pre- and postdoctoral scholars to design studies that prioritize reproductive justice as the primary approach to reproductive health services provision, including abortion, birth, contraception, healthy sexuality, parenting, and pleasure. We connect with, mentor, and support pre- and post-doctoral scholars who are pursuing a PhD or postdoctoral studies at the University of Washington School of Nursing.
